Type of School:

Private, non-parochial, state approved and licensed

Enrollment:

Enrollment is not based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex or ethnic origin. We do not have programs to serve students with significant learning, behavioral, medical or social problems.

Size:

Three classrooms; typical student enrollment is about 70 students.

Grades:

Cascadia’s core program encompasses grades 1 through 4. A pre-kindergarten and kindergarten class provides appropriate preparation for the core program and accommodates siblings of older students.

Calendar:

Classes start the last week in August and end in early June.

Staffing:

Total staffing for the three classrooms typically consists of the director/lead teacher, five other teachers, and six teaching assistants. Staffing and the student enrollment can vary from year to year.

Specialists:

Special classes are provided throughout the school year. These classes focus on such subjects as foreign language, art and music, performing arts, and physical education. These classes are taught by additional instructors who are specialists in these fields, under contract with our school.

Activities and Parent Participation:

At Cascadia, parents provide a key part of their children's education. Parents help with field trips, special functions and homework. There are typically three field trips each year (such as to the Seattle Art Museum, the Seattle Children's Theater, Discovery Park, Mercer Wetlands, the Seattle Aquarium, and the Woodland Park Zoo). We have two special functions each year: Halloween activities and an evening graduation party. Homework is assigned almost daily and parent involvement in their children's efforts is very important.

Hours:

Student class hours through Grade 2 are 8:45 A.M. to 3:20 P.M.  Class hours for students in Grade 3 and above are from 8:30 A.M. to 3:20 P.M.

Before/After School Child Care:
We provide supervised care for after-school hours. In order to help with parent work schedules, students may arrive early; Mrs. Franklin arrives at 7:30 in the morning. Students should be picked up by 5:30 P.M. During after-school time students can work on schoolwork or their homework, they can play indoor games, they can play outside, or they can choose to just relax. For students requiring before or after school care, the charge is four dollars per hour.

Student-furnished Items:

Students bring their lunches from home; mid-morning snacks and juice are provided by the school. We ask that students have an extra pair of “inside” shoes for use in the classroom.  Students also need a “back-pack” (or similar carrier) to transport their homework, lunches and other materials to and from school. The school provides the students with daily work materials including pencils, scissors, paper, rulers, art supplies, binders, work folders and homework folders.

Costs and Payment Options:
The total cost for enrollment and tuition for the 2009- 2010 school year is $13,310.
Payment plans are provided for quarterly, for nine-month (school year), and for twelve-month time frames. We do not have any additional fund-raisers or similar activities although there are occasional special classroom educational projects and motor coach rentals for transportation where we ask for help regarding direct costs.
